The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday extended its six-month-old strike indefinitely until the Government meets its demands.
This latest development followed a meeting of ASUU’s National Executive Council at the University of Abuja. The duration of this extension is indefinite.
ASUU had declared a four-week warning strike on the 14th of February 2022, but after a month, the lecturers extended it by eight weeks, claiming the government needed more time
to look at its demands.
Due to the Federal Government and lecturers’ inability to reach a resolution, the union on the 9th of May extended the strike by 12 weeks.
The university teachers seek improved welfare, the revitalization of public universities, and academic autonomy among others.
