Five Persons Killed as Huge Explosion hits Somalia

Police in Somalia have confirmed the deaths of eight civilians from a car bomb in the capital, state television reported.

17 more people were injured, including 13 children from a school near the site of the explosion.

An al-Shabab suicide bomber driving a vehicle loaded with explosives attacked a convoy belonging to the private security company Duguf in Mogadishu.

Somali Police did not say whether UN personnel were injured in the attack. But according to local media reports, the explosion occurred during morning rush hour near the busy intersection at kilometer four.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Shabab fighters have confirmed that they carried out the attack. ProalShabab media sources said the militants were targeting “white soldiers”.

Al-Shabab frequently attacks security forces and government officials in Mogadishu.
