Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been charged with two additional counts of rape, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

Mendy a french international footballer, has been on pre-trial detention since his arrest in August after several bail requests were made but were denied by the judges.

Mendy is also charged with a single sexual assault charge, Cheshire police said in a statement.

All alleged crimes relate to four women over the age of 16 and allegedly occurred between October 2020 and August 2021.

The police statement continued, “The Cheshire Police and the Crown Prosecutor’s Office would like to remind everyone that the Criminals initiated proceedings against Matturie and Mendy are active and have a right to a fair trial. ”

Mendy, currently detained at HMP Altcourse in Liverpool, is summoned to Stockport Magistrates Court Wednesday.

A co-defendant, Louis Saha Matturie, 40, was also charged with two other rape cases and one sexual assault and faces a total of six rape cases.

Mendy was originally charged on August 26, with three cases of rape-related to an alleged incident in October 2020 and the sexual assault of a woman in early January this year.

He was also charged with raping a woman in August that year. The alleged attacks are said to have occurred at his home address on Withinlee Road in Prestbury, Cheshire.

The left-back has played for Manchester City since 2017 when he came from Monaco for £ 52m.

He was suspended from the club after being charged by police pending an investigation.

Mendy’s co-defendant, Matturie, 40, of Eccles, Greater Manchester, also faces six rapes and one sexual assault related to four whistleblowers that are believed to have occurred between March 2021 and August 2021. Matturie is also on remand there.

Both men are due to be tried on January 24, 2022.
