Real Madrid Striker, Benzema handed one-year suspended jail term in ‘sex tape’ trial

Real Madrid Star Player, Karim Benzema has been found guilty of complicity in the attempted blackmail of Mathieu Valbuena, according to the president of the Versailles court.

Karim Benzema was sentenced to a 1-year conditional prison sentence and a  fine of 75,000 euros after he was found guilty of complicity in the extortion of Mathieu Valbuena.

Prosecutor asked for a 10-month suspended sentence and a €75,000 fine after a trial late last month in which the striker was absent.

The Real Madrid striker was not present at the October trial or in court this morning. The other four defendants, who were found to be directly involved in the trial, were given sentences ranging from 18 months probation to two and a half years in prison.

FFF president Noël Le Graët has previously told Le Parisien that the outcome of the trial would have no bearing on Benzema’s availability for selection to the French national team for the coming months.

As the striker is able to appeal the decision, for the time being, he will not be frozen out of the team, as he was for nearly six years as a result of the case.
